Taxpayers’ Alliance slams new £33k environment job at North East Lincolnshire Council.
Council job comes under national criticism for ‘prioritising environment over people’
The council is currently advertising for a new environmental improvement officer with an annual wage of £33,661.
The national group – which represents the interests of taxpayers – has criticised the role for prioritising the environment above people.
Taxpayers’ Alliance spokeswoman Fiona McEvoy said: “The council might want to save the planet but in the current financial climate it’s more pressing that they save taxpayers money.”
Some councillors share those concerns, but Councillor Andrew DeFreitas, leader of the council and portfolio holder for resources, has defended the role, which he says has been checked for value for money.
